Having Andy Weiss as my Journalism teacher and advisor for the Scholars Academy was indeed a privilege. Not everyone that teaches can impact the lives of his or her students. Weiss possesses many characteristics that set him apart not only as a teacher or tutor but as a human being in general. Some of those fantastic characteristics that he displayed in and out of the classroom include: patience, dedication, perseverance, honesty, cooperation, great listening skills and a great attitude!

Every lecture, or presentation Weiss was assigned to, he completed on time and with excellence. Weiss always showed initiative, and is always willing to lend a hand. If I am not mistaken Weiss was one the coordinators to bring the International Baccalaureate program at Miami Beach Senior High.

Weiss made learning fun. In order to work on our grammar skills, we the students would go to a website and try to identify mistakes in the sentences. Any other teacher would have left the exercise there. However, Weiss went the extra mile and explained each exercise. If a student did not understand, he would explain it again and again.

Along with working well with others, Weiss was one of the persons motivating me to attend the University of Florida. He encouraged me to take a leap of faith, and live the college experience. If I did not listen to him I would have stayed in my home town and attend a community college. Even though I told him every possible reason why I should go first to a community college, he always believed in me and told me to never settle for anything less than what I deserve. He is an incredible person.

Andy Weiss is someone you can count on. I more than certain that whatever he sets his mind to, he will accomplish. John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” Solely by this definition, Andy Weiss is a leader. He inspires his students to conquer the world, he inspires his students to give back to the community and he inspires his students to give their best!
